honestly...i'm disappointed the christians didn't take action first.
we are supposed to guard our minds leh...
but but... but.. i like gwen stefani, and i don't think she dresses like a ho :(
but i guess she COULD cover up more since this is a muslim country, but cmon! we're never going to be a developed country with such backward thinking! :(
:( i knew it was too good to be true! her concert would've been the bomb.
also, didn't malaysia let the pussycat dolls perform here!!! gosh.
we're never going to develop by trying to keep a certain standard of morals? sure...
suezen: i think so tooo :( it would've been the bomb :( booo
ewe jin: eh! it's not immoral of them ok! they're dressed suggestively, and hence there's a reason why muslim people are not encouraged to go if they cannot handle!
someone has to draw the line somewhere right? this just happens to be the line that they've chosen to draw. granted, different countries will have different tolerance levels, and since we're here, we live by the laws and culture of this land.
true that you should not attend the event if you can't handle it, but does everyone really know what they're in for?
someone like gwen, who's a big star, has great influence on people, and stars are generally trendsetters. if we keep following, there will eventually come a time, when morals will be thrown out the window.
you say dressing suggestively. say you were to do it yourself. do you think that would be honoring to God? when you dress suggestively, what kind of message are you sending out?
MALAYSIA IS SO EMBARRASSING.
Stupid religion.
Damn irritating.
Gwen is awesome.
Dear ionstorm,
I do agree on the part about laws and cultures of this land.
but referring from what you said, by banning gwen, that’s suppose to reduce people in Malaysia from following her trends?
A trivial move like that does almost no impact.
And It’s not like the whole of Malaysia is gonna watch it. Only people who know or are a fan of gwen will, and a big chance is… they are already expose to her “trends”.
And what is this about “following trends = morals will be thrown out the window”?
Have you ever stop and think maybe most people are smart enough to follow the positive trends that big stars exert? And cut off the negatives?
Why do I feel...? nvm.
And explain how you think people should dress to “honor God”?
So you in “God-honoring-clothes”, is suppose to make you holier than others?
Come on, don’t be so shallow… it all boils down to yourself. If your walk with God is good, isn’t that all that matters? You’ll eventually know how to discern things.
Btw…Hey Keshia! =D
if you agree with the culture of the land, then why do you not agree with its actions? one as simple as this. trivial you say? it does enough impact as it is. it tells people "this is our stand. please respect it." it gives people food for thought. as with all concerts, i highly doubt that the attendees are only the fans. by allowing this to go on the air, you're sending a message to people "this is fine and dandy".
the point of dressing in honor of God is not to be holier. it is to honor God. how does this action honor God? it helps not to stumble others. dress to the culture/occasion and show respect to it.
do you really think that if one's walk is great with God that he/she is not susceptible to temptation? why do great leaders fall? why to missionaries slip up? do you think they didn't know how to discern? please. don't kid yourself into thinking that you're all powerful to be able to discern and do the right thing. nobody's walk with the Lord is perfect.
wah heated.
i don't have anything intelligent to say but i will say that if you are a christian and want to go, then make sure that you are not lusting over her and idolise her and all that la.. gwen stefani is not a Christian and therefore have no obligations to keep your walk with God pure... that's YOUR own responsibility man...
and if you can't handle and you still want to go, then that's your problem kinda thing?
she's an entertainer.
by banning her, we may seem like we're saying that "this is our stand, and please respect it", but to me, i think it's just more of a political issue than anything else. they want control over everything that goes through every person's head.
but that's just my 2 sen.
Yea! I also totally agree for Malaysia to ban all entertainment from the outside world so that we can make our stand and live in caves! =D.
Come on, if Malaysia so wanted to ban her, why even allow her music to be broadcast here in the 1st place?
Wouldn’t that be contradicting themselves? What would people think? I allow her music to be broadcast all over Malaysia but… NO! she can’t come! Because our people will follow her trends and thus our morals will be thrown out the window!
They are merely trimming the tree rather than going to the roots of the problem, and sorry…maybe it’s not even close to trivial, but totally useless.
Btw, which you think reaches faster to the people? Through a TV set at home or a concert in one place?
I agree with Keshia! =) politics.
Obviously the attendees are not only the fans, Urgh! Like I said majority of them are fans AND people that know her. Tickets range from RM100 – RM400+, who would pay for something they don’t know about? Some curious people yes, but a minority ofcuz. But by then, it’ll be mostly booked by fans anyway.
Yea, gwen is an entertainer and not a Christian and the reason they dress so is solitarily for entertainment purposes.
So obviously Keshia wouldn’t be dressing like gwen on stage walking around a mall.
You won’t rite keshia? =P
I was subject on discerning how to dress, not whatever your trying to say.
And wait, so your saying Christians don’t know how to discern? If im not mistaken, what is this thing called the “Holy Spirit” for then? The only reason why they fail is because they made the wrong choice. Everyone knows how to discern and temptations are always there, it’s about the choices you make.
I’m starting to think that you’re saying we are all some brainless living creatures. Oh wait, no…it’s just your words. Be more careful with them please.
Obviously nobody’s walk with God is perfect, it’s not a 1 day thing fyi. So no, I don’t think we’re all powerful and do the right thing always, that’s why it’s called a W.A.L.K. not a ONE-STOP-YOUR-THERE kinda thing. Thats why christians continuously fast and pray right? Being general here. Yea totally agree with keshia, YOUR OWN responsibilities! So again… It boils down to yourself.
so what would you say is the root of the problem?
i go back to the point of living by the laws and culture of the land. where we live, gwen's dressing is deemed unacceptable, furthermore, it is a public performance. on a religious level, it is probably seen as a compromise of morality. so if that is the case in our land, would it not be prudent to take such action? how then is this political?
there needs to be a balance between giving one the freedom of choice, and prohibition. the problem however, more often than not, the wrong choice is made, simply because it is the easier and more attractive choice. in such circumstances, some prohibition is needed.
yes, i do say that many christians do not know how to discern, thus resulting in the wrong choice. how much you are able to discern depends on many different factors, and even then, how one discerns is different from another. this lack of discernment is very evident in the practices of the modern church as well as its congregation.
back to gwen, really, what is it about gwen steffani that you are you upset they have not allowed her to come? are you angry because it was something worth seeing...or are you angry because your "freedom of choice" has been taken away? i don't know. i'd understand if her performance adds value to your life...but gwen? maybe i don't know her and her music enough. tell me. why is gwen worth listening to. how does gwen add value to your life?
Heck it, come to Singapore for her concert!
P.S.: I'm really sorry about Thursday night.. I only got well on Friday :(
Well, im not the one with the issues here. Not my problem really.
The point is, why expose people to international celebs on TV and suddenly pretend to be all strict about it when she tries to come over to do a performance for her fans that “they”, the board of censorship or whatever have created themselves? Isn’t that not solving the problem? Like merely banning her will stop anyone from seeing what they already know.
Politics is the regard of power/authority
The party who boycotted to ban her I believe just merely wants to demonstrate to the public that they have power. Again, if they really cared and wanted to emphasize these restrictions, start from fighting to ban international broadcasts instead of the result of these broadcasts. What I’m trying to say is, don’t expose the public to international celebs in the 1st place then. But they can’t why? Cause it’ll be an insane move and they don’t have the power to do so. So irritate of the lost of their powers, they’ll try the smallest of things to control just to show the public they still have power. When really they don’t care about the issue at hand, but just power.
But that’s just my theory... the point is, it’s something about power/politics, to control, not so much to care really.
LOL. I wasn’t planning to go in the 1st place. You assume a lot about me. What really tic me off was you agreeing with this country’s act on a useless move like that. It’s not just gwen, it’s something more general. Yea you have your say I know, so im just saying mine =) You know, this can go both ways… don’t you think that this country should ban Christian bands and concerts as well then since it’s a Muslim country and that there is a chance that a Muslim might go into this and get converted?
So I quote: “By allowing this to go on the air, you're sending a message to people "this is fine and dandy"” Christian concerts… bad message this sends out huh?
lol frame? haha sorry that's me above =P
omg...i typed a comment last night and it didn't come out...grrrrr...
will type again later...maybe.
ewe jin and shawn: wah you 2 are very good at debating! :
shawn: NO I DO NOT DRESS LIKE G.STEFFANI. i don't like her dress sense, but love her music though :D
ewe jin: feel free to reply anytime hehe
pui ee: ya she's probably goin down to singapore yeh :) hehehe... and don't worry la, we got to spend time talking cos you were too sick :( hope you are feeling better now...
actually, i went to do some thinking, and i have to agree that banning is probably a silly thing to do...since God never deliberately took a choice away from anyone.
that said...i'm not hung up about the show getting banned and i'm not hung up about the authorities who decided to do so though it probably does more harm in its entirety.
btw...i heard that she's still coming.
